Week 1, Thing 1: Beginning

So, I'm looking forward to learning about these things in greater detail. 23 Things is a weird name. 23 is a weird number, but apparently used quite a bit. Example: Preservation Trust of Vermont's 23 Things to do for historic preservation. 23 as a magic number is new to me. Any clues as to its origin?

The best and/or most entertaining explaination of the 23 Things origin was posted recently on Tame the Web (http://tametheweb.com/). Here's a link to the post:

My comment on your comment--
Yo, Helen, I know how "23 Things" got started, I meant how did the number 23 get chosen for so many dissimilar lists?

Gotcha. As I understand it from poking around, the original 23 Things from Learning 2.0 was so successful, all these other organizations that are even distantly enough related to have heard of it pretty much carbon copied it with minor adjustments for the specialty hoping for the same level of success.

As for the number 23, I'm investigating. I'll get back to you when someone tells me!

For the record, I emailed the library that started it and no one got back to me. If I hear back from them later, I'll let you know, otherwise, I guess it'll remain a mystery.
